This will be followed by a talk by Kris Frank on Cartier-Bresson and the photography of the Decisive Moment, in which Kris will be looking at what we can all learn from an old master. In the last part, we will share and discuss our photos, bearing in mind our summer theme 'Motion photography and shutter speed'. (Please look at our pages about Photo Sharing.)

Thursday 25th July 2019 at 2pm: Kris Frank will give a talk about

"Some Great CHEAP Photo Shooting apps for Smart Phones & Tablets &

The BEST FREE Photo Editing Apps for Smart Phones".

If you have a smartphone, whether iPhone or Android, and you don’t just want to shoot on the fully Auto camera app that came with your phone, there are a myriad of shooting apps that enable more manual control of shutter speed, ISO and can shoot in RAW or JPEG and which boast rave reviews and squillions of users.  After a forensic study, there are a few that stand out from the hype and (paid for) eulogies. Kris explores 3 of them and explains why he chose them from the pack and how they compare up close and personal and what they do well and not so well.

It is always best to upload your photos to your computer and edit them on a big screen, but if you are in a tearing hurry to send a photo by email or post on social media and don’t have time for the transfer or can’t access your laptop or desktop, then which photo Editor is the best?  Kris looks at 3 FREE of the best Smart phone & Tablet photo-editors and what they can do and how they do it all differently - and he will also mention a few other useful zappy apps.

If you can’t afford a brand new smart phone, but can afford a secondhand smart phone that will be able to use these apps, you might also pick up some clues as to which older phones or tablets should support them. Some phones will shoot or process RAW and others can still use the apps but operating in JPEG format. Come along and find out what you need to know.

Kris has provided two sets of notes: one on Photo Shooting apps for smart phones, and the other on Photo Editing apps for smart phones

August 2019: Please note that there will be NO meeting of the U3A Photography Group in August. We will start our meetings again in September.
