HOME GET-TOGETHERS

From time to time, we organise informal get-togethers in a member's home (see below for time and place). These get-togethers provide an opportunity for more experienced members to help others to use their cameras more effectively. For example, members who would like to liberate themselves from the "auto" setting of their camera can seek advice about the best settings of shutter speed, aperture (f-stop), ISO and focus for different kinds of subject. Those who have more experience might wish to discuss more advanced topics such as high dynamic range, focus stacking, panorama stitching, etc.

The home get-togethers are in no way restricted to discussion of cameras, and we want them to provide a forum for discussion of all kinds of other photography-related topics, including editing of photos and ideas for future activities of our group. They also give an opportunity to share news of locations and opportunities for photography in the Exeter area, interesting local exhibitions and talks, etc. Last but not least, they give us a chance to chat and get to know each other better.

Important note: If you would like to discuss settings on your particular camera, you will need to bring both the camera and its manual with you. This means the full manual, and not just the quick-start guide. (If you don't already have the manual in a convenient printed form, then the next best is to bring it on a laptop or a tablet.) It would also be helpful if you could tell the group convenor in advance which camera you would like advice on, because then we can think who might be best placed to help.

There will be a home get-together at 2.15pm on Thursday 14th February 2019 at Mike Gillan's house: 32 Marlborough Road, Exeter EX2 4TJ. Marlborough Road runs from Magdalen Road to Wonford Road, and the house is near the Wonford Road end. The D bus stops at St Luke's College, which is at the Magdalen Road end. Please let Mike know in advance if you plan to come.
