PHOTO AMBLES

From time to time, we organise outings to interesting places with good opportunities for taking photos - we call these "photo ambles".

11th October 2020: Stone Lane Gardens: This is a beautiful garden near Castle Drogo on the edge of Dartmoor. It has a wonderful collection of trees and is also home to an outdoor exhibition of sculptures, which changes on a yearly basis.

19th April 2021: Lympstone: A beautiful village on the shore of the Exe estuary, with many old houses and little narrow streets leading down to the foreshore.

26th May 2021: Knightshayes: A Victorian country house near Tiverton, having extensive grounds, which include a large walled kitchen garden, flower beds and woods. The very changeable weather caused us considerable problems in organising this photo-amble, and not everyone went on the same day.

11th June 2021: Torre Abbey: The ruins of this great mediaeval abbey are set in 18 acres of gardens and parkland in the centre of Torquay. We chose this for a photo-amble mainly because of the very extensive gardens, which include a walled garden, a mediaeval garden, large glass houses with tropical and sub-tropical plants, and the Agatha Christie "Potent Plants" garden.

11th July 2022: Lustleigh village: This is known as one of the most beautiful villages in Devon. There are several lovely parts to explore, including "Wreyland", with its lovingly restored and cared-for thatched cottages, the centre of the village by the tea-shop with its Celtic cross, the church, and the village orchard with the massive granite rock where the "Queen of the May" is crowned every year.
