ABOUT
We are the Photography Group of the Exeter branch of u3a (the University of the Third Age). The u3a movement encourages retired or semi-retired people to come together and continue their enjoyment of learning in subjects that interest them. Photography is a popular subject, and most branches of u3a in the UK have a Photo Group - indeed, some have more than one.

Photography is a many-sided activity, and we hope our Group will appeal to people whose interest in the subject expresses itself in many different ways. We believe that:
- You do not need sophisticated equipment to take good pictures, and we are interested in all kinds of cameras, from smart phones, through bridge and mirrorless cameras to SLRs.
- We try to make our group useful to people with all levels of experience and expertise: we want to help you understand the basics if you are a beginner and to explore new techniques if you are more advanced.
- Photography is not just about technique - it is also about art, social issues, journalism, and more. We aim to discuss what makes a good (or even a great) image in these different contexts.
- One way of learning about great images is by hearing about and discussing master photographers of the past and present.
- u3a is all about learning from each other, and an important part of our activities is sharing and discussing our photos; we give structure to our photo-sharing by setting monthly themes.
- We like participation, and we encourage members who have the time and inclination to give short (or longer) talks.
