Archive of meetings held Sept 2020 - Aug 2021

Thursday 10th September 2020 at 2pm: The meeting consisted mainly of photo-sharing on the two themes set for the summer break, "Clouds" and "Mirrors". At the end of the meeting, we discussed plans for the next few months, including possible photo ambles, future photo-sharing themes, the frequency of our zoom meetings, and people's wishes for future discussion of editing.

Because of the coronavirus lockdown, face-to-face meetings of our group were suspended from March 2020 onwards. However, we continued to meet online using the zoom video-conferencing app. We continued this way during Sept 2020 - August 2021

Thursday 24th September 2020 at 2pm: There were two main items for this meeting: photo-sharing on the theme of "Stripes", and participants' photos from the recent photo amble at Dart's Farm.

Thursday 8th October 2020 at 2pm: This meeting consisted of photo-sharing on the theme of "Boats".

Thursday 22nd October 2020 at 2pm: The meeting consisted of two main topics: photo-sharing on the theme of "Parts of vehicles", and sharing of photos from the photo amble at Stone Lane Gardens on 11th October.

Thursday 5th November 2020 at 2pm: The meeting consisted of two main topics: photo-sharing on the theme of "Fungi", and sharing of photos from our photo-amble at Stone Lane Gardens that could not be shown at our previous zoom meeting.

Thursday 19th November 2020 at 2pm: The meeting consisted of photo-sharing on the theme of "Autumn colours", which was intended to include not only colours from the natural world, but also clothing and anything else with an autumn feel.

Thursday 3rd December 2020 at 2pm: We shared photos on the theme of "A recent day out".

Thursday 17th December 2020 at 2pm: We shared photos on the theme of "Books". There was also some discussion of taking and editing videos on smart phones and cameras.

Thursday 7th January 2021 at 2pm: We shared videos taken on smart phones or cameras and there was some discussion about how to edit videos. We also shared still photos on the theme of "Energy".

Thursday 21st January 2021 at 2pm: We shared photos on the theme of "Memorabilia". The theme could be interpreted either in the "public" sense of objects that remind us of well-known people, places or events, or in the "private" sense of objects that bring back more personal memories of the past.

Thursday 4th February 2021 at 2pm: We will share photos on the theme of "Winter trees".

Thursday 18th February 2021 at 2pm: The photo-sharing theme for this meeting is "A shot in the dark", in other words low-light photography. You are encouraged to come up with photos taken out of doors between dusk and dawn or indoors under low-light conditions. Time permitting, Mike will give a (very) short talk about "noise", which can often be a problem in low-light photography.

Thursday 4th March 2021 at 2pm: The photo-sharing theme for this meeting is "Exeter: What, Where, and Why". The idea here is to show photos of interesting places or things in Exeter, preferably with a story attached. If you can present things that are not too familiar it will add to the fun, because then people can be invited to suggest what they are!

Thursday 18th March 2021 at 2pm: For this meeting, you are invited and encouraged to find out about at least one feature on your camera (or your smart phone's camera) that you haven't explored before, try it out in practice, and tell us about it at the meeting. If this theme is not your cup of tea, you are welcome to show any interesting photos that you have taken recently.

Thursday 1st April 2021 at 2pm: This meeting will consist of photo-sharing on the theme "Devon wildlife". We take the "wildlife" theme in a pretty broad sense, to include at least mammals, birds, insects, spiders, reptiles, and amphibians, but probably not people. It has to be wildlife that you've found in Devon, and it doesn't include zoos, so no tigers and zebras, please! We also don't want to include flowers and other plants, because we want to keep those for a future theme.

Thursday 15th April 2021 at 2pm: The photo-sharing theme for this meeting will be "It's all in the detail". The idea of this theme is that it can sometimes be more interesting to take photos of just some characteristic part of a subject, rather than the whole thing. Interesting details can be all kinds of things, such as the grain of wood, the texture of rocks, the weave of a material - or perhaps the curious lettering on a monument. There are many possibilities!

Thursday 29th April 2021 at 2pm: At this meeting, we will be sharing photos from the photo-amble at Lympstone on 19th April. Those who did not go on the photo-amble are more than welcome to show photos from any local villages (including Lympstone) that they may have taken on other occasions.

Thursday 13th May 2021 at 2pm: The photo-sharing theme for this meeting is "Graffiti". This theme includes not just random scrawlings on walls, but embraces any kind of informal (i.e. not commissioned) street art, of which there is plenty in Exeter.

Thursday 27th May 2021 at 2pm: The meeting consisted mainly of photo-sharing, this time on the theme of "Spring highlights", which includes flowers, blossoms, trees, and indeed anything spring-like that has lifted your spirits recently.

Thursday 10th June 2021 at 2pm: At this meeting, we shared photos on the theme of "Hands and feet". You were encouraged to come up with photos that convey a story, a feeling, or an idea. If possible, we would like you to include a black-and-white image in what you show. Just to ring the changes, it would also be interesting to have some square-format images.

Thursday 24th June 2021 at 2pm: We shared photos on the theme of "Torre Abbey or another historic place visited recently".

Thursday 15th July at 2021 (please note that this comes three weeks after the previous zoom meeting, not the usual two weeks after): The meeting will consist mainly of photo-sharing on the theme of "Contrasts". The idea here is to show photos that prominently feature one or more contrasts of any kind - and of course there are many kinds: rough/smooth, up/down, light/dark, many/few, sublime/ridiculous...
