Archive of meetings held Sept 2022 - Aug 2023

Thursday 8th September 2022 at 2pm: zoom meeting. We will start with a general discussion about plans for the next few months, including possible talks by members, photo-ambles, etc. The photo-sharing theme for this meeting is "Rocks and cliffs".

Thursday 22nd September 2022 at 2pm: in-person meeting (Wesley Room at the Mint). The photo-sharing theme for the meeting is "Fairs, festivals and markets".

Thursday 27th October 2022 at 2pm: in-person meeting (Wesley Room at the Mint). Dave Parsons gave a talk on "How to get your photos organised". (Here are the slides of his talk.) This was followed by a shortened photo-sharing on the theme "Humour: strange sightings". The idea of this theme was to show photos of intentionally or unintentionally funny things you have seen in your wanderings - things like wacky signs in the street or unexpected fashions that make you ask "is it trending?". Time for photo-sharing this time was limited, so members were asked to show their photos at a good pace!

Thursday 24th November 2022 at 2pm: in-person meeting (Wesley Room at the Mint). The photo-sharing theme for this meeting will be "Emotive". This theme is intended to cover both events or situations that arouse emotions as well as people's expressions of emotion in response to such things.

Thursday 8th December 2022 at 2pm: please note this is a zoom meeting. We will share photos on the theme of "Your most memorable photos taken in 2022", and you are encouraged to include photos of autumn colours, if you have them. To make sure they are really "memorable", we would ask you to limit yourself to no more than 10.

Thursday 26th January 2023 at 2pm: in-person meeting (Wesley Room at the Mint). There will be a talk by Claire Edey about making your own photo-books. We will also have photo-sharing on the theme "All lit up". We are thinking here mainly of winter illuminations, though we are aware that the phrase also has another meaning!

Thursday 23rd February 2023 at 2pm: in-person meeting (Wesley Room at the Mint). The proposed photo-sharing theme for this meeting is "The poetry of winter".

Thursday 23rd March 2023 at 2pm: in-person meeting (Wesley Room at the Mint). Kris Frank will give a talk about "Black-and-white photography", in which he will discuss why images can sometimes be more powerful in black-and-white than in colour. We will also have a photo-share on the theme of "Those were the days".

Thursday 27th April 2023 at 2pm: in person meeting (Wesley Room at the Mint). Mike Gillan and Kris Frank will show a selection of their photos taken in Japan, and we plan to invite members of the U3A Travel Group to the meeting. In addition, following Kris' talk on "Black-and-white photography" at the March meeting, everyone is invited to share their black-and-white photos.

Thursday 25th May 2023 at 2pm: in-person meeting (Wesley Room at the Mint). We showed black-and-white photos that could not be shown at the previous meeting because we ran out of time. We then went on to the main photo-share of the meeting on the theme of "Wabi Sabi". This somewhat ill-defined Japanese concept is all about ideas of transient beauty, imperfection and incompleteness.

Thursday 22nd June 2023: in-person meeting (Wesley Room at the Mint). The photo-share for this meeting is "Blooming marvellous" - a celebration of spring and early-summer flowers that have been bursting forth over the past few months. Members of the U3A Gardening group have been invited to the meeting.

Thursday 27th July 2023: in-person meeting (Wesley Room at the Mint). There will be a photo-share on the theme of "What on earth is that?". As the name implies, you are invited to show us photos where the subject is at first mysterious, because the photo is taken from an unusual angle, or perhaps because the subject itself is unfamiliar, or for any other reason.

PLEASE NOTE: There will be no meetings of the group during August, because we take a summer break during this month.
