Archive of photo-sharing themes 2022 - 2023

Thursday 8th September 2022: Our theme for photo-sharing on this date will be "Rocks and cliffs". We are blessed with wonderful rocks in the Exeter area, both on the coast and on Dartmoor, but of course your photos from other parts of the world are very welcome too.

Thursday 22nd September 2022: The theme this time is "Fairs, festivals and markets". If you have been able to get out and about this summer, you may have visited fairs, festivals and markets to tell us about, with the aid of photos you have taken. Naturally, older photos on this theme are very welcome too.

Thursday 27th October 2022: The photo-sharing theme this time is "Humour: strange sightings". The idea of this theme is to show photos of intentionally or unintentionally funny things you have seen in your wanderings - things like wacky signs in the street or novel and unexpected fashions that make you ask "is it trending?".

Thursday 24th November 2022: The photo-sharing theme for this meeting will be "Emotive". This theme is intended to cover both events or situations that arouse emotions as well as people's expressions of emotion in response to such things. Of course, all emotions are included here: happiness, sadness, fear, anger, love, disgust, shame - well, you can add to the list as you wish.

Thursday 8th December 2022: We will share photos on the theme "Your most memorable photos taken in 2022", and we encourage you to include a few photos of autumn colours. We say "most memorable", rather than "best", because we want to hear what stuck in your mind most - and that might be because of the personal importance of the occasion or perhaps because it revealed something to you that you had not been aware of before; or it could have been something that you felt was unusually beautiful.

Thursday 26th January 2023: The photo-sharing theme for this meeting was "All lit up". We chose this theme partly with Christmas illuminations in mind, but we realised that it could cover many other kinds of image, and not necessarily nightime pictures.

Thursday 23rd February 2023: At this meeting, we will share photos on the theme of "The poetry of winter". You are encouraged to show us photos that convey wintry feelings, and, if you feel able to do so, we would like you to pair your photos with a wintry poem.

Thursday 23rd March 2023: The photo-sharing theme for this meeting will be "Those were the days". The idea here is to show photos that recall how things were in the past. These might be photos from your own past, showing memories that have a personal meaning for you, or they could be more "historical" photos that illustrate how different places, people or things used to be.

Thursday 27th April 2023: Following Kris Frank's talk on "Black-and-white photography" at the March meeting, everyone is invited to share their black-and-white photos. We hope for animated discussion about how far the photos we share illustrate the ideas presented in Kris' talk.

Thursday 25th May 2023: Our theme for this meeting was "Wabi Sabi". This refers to ancient Japanese ideas about transient beauty, imperfection and incompleteness. For the purpose of this photo-share, we suggested that it should be interpreted as the passing-away of beautiful things.

Thursday 22nd June 2023: At this meeting, our photo-sharing theme is "Blooming marvellous", a celebration of the spring and early-summer flowers that have been bursting forth all around us in the past few months.

Thursday 27th July 2023: Our theme for this meeting is "What on earth is that?". The theme can be interpreted in different ways. For example, you might have come across some ancient tool or piece of equipment whose original purpose in now mysterious. Or you might have seen a familiar object from an unusual perspective, so that it looks strange. Then again, you might have spotted someone dressed in a highly unconventional way. The choice is yours!
